This will make your day.

Niagara Falls in Motion from Matthew Wartman on Vimeo.

I love this song so much. I'd watch Little Miss Sunshine again to hear this song. Although I'd watch it again anyway because it's just such a great movie, too.

Finally unlocked a diary I kept in 5th grade after hunting for the key for the past few days.

May 21, 2002, I copied a Rilke poem from a book I was reading:

God speaks to each of us as He makes us,
Then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear:

You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing.
Embody me.

Flare up like flame
and make big shadows I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don't let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand.

The next page I talked about my summer camp friend, who I desperately avoided when I saw her again in high school.

Weird thing is that my handwriting looked like a cross between mine currently and my brother's...

And I also wrote about my two best friends for that summer, Amy and Catherine, and how I got mad at Amy and avoided her until I decided to forgive her if she kissed my foot, which she did, and then I got mad at Catherine and avoided her... LOLOL

I also punched people a lot back then.

Two days before middle school, I had to cut off a chunk of my hair because I wanted to curl it by wrapping it in a comb, but it got stuck.
But by April, "The Hair" (as I had called it) had grown past my eyes finally.

Also seems like everyone I knew in the world lived in my neighborhood and rode my bus. No one else seems to exist.

I also wrote poems to my secret crushes, but tore them out years later because they were too embarrassing.

I've been busy with all sorts of friends lately and haven't had a really good meal at home in a while. So it was nice to stay home today and have some 김치 볶음밥 (kimchi fried rice) and 깍두기 (daikon kimchi). After five bites it makes you want to cry! You never feel so alive as when you eat korean food

Is pride a fault or a virtue?

"In his pride the wicked does not seek Him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God." (Psalm 10:4).

"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us." (Pride & Prejudice)

I think pride can motivate us into the right direction - knowing what we deserve and where we stand can put us in the direction to move forward.

Hmm.

i smell like dexter

Been spending a lot of time with my silly white girls who keep getting their hearts broken. Came home today with monster heartburn from all the condolence junk food and the smell of her 5 dogs and 2 cats stuck on me - despite the shower I took before I left.

Pugs are cute, in a horribly revolting way.

Wrestled with Dexter, the puppy who already matches my size and who went Kujo on her when she pointed at his face.

Home...
The smell of my house is the same as when we first moved in, but it takes a night spent elsewhere to really sense it again. Immediately washed my hands, brushed my teeth, made some tea, drank some milk, and recharged my phone.

In conclusion, How to Endure a Break-up/Separation 101:

- Eat, even if your appetite is gone. Consume whatever the hell you want (expensive fudge, frozen coffee drinks, chips, chocolate), as long as it's edible, in as much quantity as is possible. Need to release the serotonin!
- Watch sappy movies, including hours-long epic Hindi films (Kal Ho Naa Ho and Veer Zaara) and classics like Titanic or Moulin Rouge. Throw in a random comedy such as The Importance of Being Earnest for a well-deserved laugh.
- Surround yourself with friends or animals or whatever makes you happy.
- Get some beauty rest, even if you're an insomniac or if you've ingested inhumane amounts of caffeine.
- Shower, nothing beats feeling clean! And smelling nice.
